IG Punjab Police Capt (Retd) Arif Nawaz Khan instructed officers to take out check posts except those on the boundaries of province and districts across the Punjab and also to ensure strict compliance of new security SOPs for surveillance of vehicles and residents.
He said this during a conference held at Central Police Office on Tuesday via video link. During the meeting, law and order situation, crime graph and functioning and performance of police force were also evaluated.
Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan insisted that monitoring should be done thru CCTV and patrolling instead of Police barriers and check posts. He added, Police officials should participate in functional activities instead of standing at check posts and barriers.
He also mentioned that in case of any misconduct at inter-provincial and inter-district check posts concerned DSP would be held responsible and department shall take strict action against him.
Capt (r) Arif Nawaz Khan said that citizen can file a complaint on 8787 IGP Complaint center in case of the presence of police check posts/barrier anywhere in Punjab and a strict action would be taken against the responsible officials.
The IGP said that on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) a highly level security compromised of 4 tiers should be offered to processions and majalis.
During this video conference all Regional Police Officers (RPO) reported the IGP about the crime situation and performance of police force in their respective areas, on which IG Punjab directed all DPOs to go at the crime-scene by themselves in person, in cases like violence and rape against children and women. He further instructed all DPOs to share weekly progress reports of the cases about women and children with the Central Police Office.
He also emphasized to utilize all available resources for the security of Urs Hazrat Usman Ali Hajveri (RA) and shrine administration must also be consulted while devising a security plan.
